As an esthetician you are obligated to care for your clients and respect their privacy. However, that does not mean that you must compromise your own health and safety. We all know the protocol of using gloves and appropriate attire for different types of procedures.

When you start with a new client, your intake forms can be one of the best ways to protect yourself from the unknown. Make sure you intake forms include questions about medications, diet, health issues, allergies etc. Ask your clients about the normal skin conditions that will impact what you do, but also what concerns if any that they have. What are they looking for out of this process? Make sure you have a clear picture before you begin to work with a client. That will make all the difference.
Be Comfortable To Stand In Your Power
Be ready, and comfortable enough, to say that we cannot work together today or in the future. Be ready and willing to recommend your clients see a dermatologist if you believe they need one. Add credibility to your business by having a strong network to pull on. That way you are able to protect yourself and offer advice to others.
